{ obsession }

i can't get enough of this song
if a guy sang this to me
I'd probably marry him
even if he told me he wrote it himself
i'm a little obsessed right now.
please listen...all the way through.
I think it's worth it.

{ spoiled }

I'm spoiled.

...this has been quite the week.

I was sick on MONDAY but it's okay because
I spent hours in beautiful central park over the weekend
then on TUESDAY I went to the greatest show that I've been to
in a very long time...Mumford & Sons
WEDNESDAY a friend treated us to free tickets to American Idiot
and THURSDAY we had the most perfect night at Yankee stadium

I feel spoiled and blessed...and now it's the weekend

i love my life.

{ attack of the scalper }

I made my way to webster hall...a favorite venue in the city
to meet some friends to see Mumford & Sons play
we had an extra ticket because someone bailed
no big deal, this happens all the time but what happened next,
I'm going to forever call...Attach of the Scalper.
We looked around to see if someone needed a ticket...
our price = face value, that's all we needed
and we looked over and saw a couple about to get played
by a scalper
so my friends (not me...this will be important later)
tried to motion them to buy our tickets and save $10
we get our money back they get a ticket at face value
good, right?
bad idea
said scalper wasn't too thrilled about a little competition
he came storming over to me (guess I got singled out on this one)
told me to stay the &*!#! away from his customers
and almost tried stabbing me with his umbrella
awesome.
you might not believe what I did next but I yelled.
it comes out when it needs to
I know, I know, I live in NYC and I probably should
be a little more careful but I had my friends to back me up
and the big bouncer at Webster so it was cool
(don't worry mom!)
we left the scalper on the street to terrorize someone else
while we went inside and enjoyed what I have to say
was one of the greatest shows I've ever been to
bands dream about playing New York City
and I'm glad I could be a part of that dream
....................................................................
the scalper told me his wife would be waiting for me
around the corner when the show got out...
she wasn't
but joe walked me to the subway just in case.
the end.

{ a promise }

I made a promise to my good friend nathan once...
back in the day when we lived on an island,
ate pineapple
and always had the ocean in view...
that I would write him a song.

It's been 10+ years but a promise is a promise
so it's about time he gets his song.

nathan, remember that time that you and mounce
called me from maui and you were listening to my song?
that might have been the one of the greatest days ever
because I thought you hated each other
and I was so happy that you were friends
and because you liked my sappy songs.

well, this one's not perfect, but few things are.
I usually would never ever let anyone listen
to anything I've written that I thought
was a bit cheesy or not finished
or that I didn't like for some reason
but I don't care anymore.
maybe I'm tired and need to pack for my trip
and don't want to stay up until 3am
or maybe I really just don't care what people
think anymore and that is a very good thing
so here goes nothing

whatever the case, it's nathan's birthday
I wrote him this song
and he's cool,
even when he uses too many napkins and wastes trees.

{ happy birthday and thanks for never giving up on me }

{ guster! }

A great perk about being single? Friends who call you up and take you on dates to concerts at your favorite venue in the city...even better, said friend doesn't realize until you get there that he has fourth row orchestra seats.  smooth.  GUSTER put on an amazing show.  They were one of the tightest bands I've seen in a long time.  The highlights:  the floating ukulele, bongo drums, special guests from a girls school in Philly complete with school uniforms and the final song all acoustic with the house lights ON.
these songs make me happy:
either way.
satellite.
happier.
two points for honesty.
thanks AB!

sidenote:  After the show we ended up at the new Apple store on Broadway to try and fix my muffled iphone.  We had three Apple geniuses helping us but it only took one smart one to fix the problem. Solution: if the sound is muffled on your iPhone but the speaker still works and your headphones still work it's because the guy at the Apple store sold you the films for the iTouch instead of the iPhone.
It took a genius to figure that out.

{ with the band }

thanks to a good friend,
in the middle of nowhere rochester,
I had a dream worth FRIDAY night.

I'm not going to lie,
getting the VIP concert experience is kind of as cool as it sounds.

I think I like rockstars again.

{ yeah yeah YEAH! }

lets talk about karen O for a moment...

I don't think I've ever had more fun watching someone on stage.
Talk about working a crowd.
one of my first dates in NYC was with brig...
at the YYY's concert downtown...
it was the perfect welcome to NYC and now seeing them
at Radio City with my favorite girls...
I know I've made it here.

there's nothing like a show where everyone is up...
dancing. singing and playing in pink confetti
falling from the ceiling.
THANKS aubs for getting us up. in. front.

{ stand by me }

click HERE

I promise you it's worth 5 minutes of your time.

"sigh.... all the places, pieces, and people of the world. all the implications. and united for a few minutes in song {via headphones and soul}. I LOVE IT. mmm... worth the five minutes of your time. looove grandpa elliot and looove the cello. and even the graffiti, and the dreds, and the varying sunsets, and all the colors shapes and sizes that we are. when you see the spectrum of humanity laid out like this before you, you remember how beautiful everything can be. you forget to be so negative; you forget that things can seem impossible." AUDREY

thanks A for passing this on...lvya!

{ mgmt }

I LOVE concerts and I LOVE brooklyn.

MGMT in prospect park was the perfect summer night with some of my favorite girls (and the best panini I've ever had...why does everything seem to taste better in brooklyn?)

The only thing not perfect was the way too tall gentleman standing in front of us...and the david bowie sort of look alike that tried hitting on sister helen the whole night.

We even ran into La Rumba.

This must be booked for a future birthday/going away/bachelorette...whatever party.

Like I need an excuse to celebrate...

:)

{ this is anvil }

A big thanks to Doze for getting us to rally (on a school night!) for a late night screening of Anvil
a live performance of the band.

Only in NYC...well, or maybe LA but NYC is better.

These boys (well, er, 50 year old men!) have a dream and they're still working at it...30 years later.

We asked them what we could do to help and they said promote the movie and promote the band so that's what I will do.

Don't worry mom, a heavy metal groupie isn't on my agenda but I like supporting dreams so I'll cheer them on from the sidelines.

I wouldn't if it wasn't worth the time but it is so go see the movie...laugh...shed a few tears and be inspired.
 I was.
